2019 Saturday Juniors Structure

***NB: 2019 will present new opportunities for confident and skilled players in each age group to 'play up' into the next age group (providing more hockey time and value for money), but there will be a strict policy on players staying in and participating in their current age group as it is an important element of their development as a player. The coordinators appreciate parents positively supporting the changes which have come about after many hours of consultation and discussion within our junior committee and with Hockey Qld staff.***

U5/U7/U9/U11/U13 STRUCTURE

·         No grading confusion, ALIGNS with representative age levels and Toowoomba Club team age groups that visit.

·         All children will be placed in a team in their age group, playing up an age group is by choice made at registration time, no extra cost.

·         Small sided games (as advised by HA & HQld) eliminate ‘one touch per game’ – inclusive team building culture.

·         More opportunities to increase weekly game time & value for money.

·         Prevent rushing ages through levels – enjoyment with friends, opportunity to be the best they can be in their age group and mentor team mates through game leadership and teamwork, and more time to master basic skills.

PLAYING IN AND ABOVE THEIR AGE GROUP

Child should display Advanced Competency and ‘Game Sense’ for their age and a genuine personal interest and commitment to having more game time each week:

U7 – Play in U7 and up into U9

U9 – Play in U9 and up into U11 & U13

U11 – Play U11 and up into U13

Congrats to...

CONGRATULATIONS Josh Hagenbach, Will Ready, and Bailey Rutledge on their successes this year in Qld Representative selections.
They started their hockey journeys young in our Warwick Junior Hockey Saturdays for several years, and have worked hard to achieve their dreams of becoming elite players. All three boys participated in our Inter High School Competition this year, and Josh and Will also played in the Corinthians Men's A Grade premiership winning team.
They are in the Qld U15 Squad due to trial in January 2019. Warwick Junior Hockey wishes them the best of luck!

2018 Gender Team Highlights

2018 saw the introduction of two teams of girls and two teams of boys created out of the W1 team lists. This really is the very beginning of growing in this area and the proof of success was in the shining confidence of the girls in their game and the competitiveness of the boys in theirs. The girls teams were named The Blitz and Spirit, the boys teams The Blaze and Strikers. Although the Saturday schedule and season didn't allow for regular full field games, a select few from each team committed to meeting at 10:45am each week to practice with their allocated team. The opportunity to play with their gender helped the U13 girls immensley in their preparation for State Championships.

On Grand Final Day it didn't rain, it poured. Unfortunately the grand finale games were cut short at half time due to heavy rain. Both games were reported as highly competitive and strong.

Our 2018 winners were Blitz (1-0 vs Spirit) and the Strikers (3-2 vs Blaze). Captains from both teams were presented with the perpetual trophy in a post Grand Final Day presentation this week.

Next year we hope to continue to strengthen this concept through visits from Toowoomba club teams and a girls and boys super league coinciding with senior super league.
